Amputee Nails Hole-In-One On Torrey Pines Golf Course, Credits Wii Golf For His Swing
Gotta love a feel good story.
Last year, para-golfer Abdul Nevarez and his buddies took a trip to the famous San Diego golf course Torrey Pines. The day was absolutely gorgeous and just getting the chance to play with his friends and enjoy the beauty of California would have been magic enough, especially considering Nevarez’s situation.
10 years prior, he was the victim of a hit and run accident while riding his motorcycle home. He spent 10 days in the ICU and 2 months in the hospital, and though there were many times where doctor’s didn’t think he was going to make it, he survived and was able to go home, albeit with life changing injuries.
His leg was amputated right above his knee, and he suffered nerve damage to his left arm, but throughout all of that, he never let it stop him from hitting the links.
For a while he was relegated to only playing Tiger Woods Wii Golf, which he credits with forming his unique style, but about 3 years after his accident he began going back on the course with the help of a specialized contraption called the Paragolfer.
Using his one good arm, he’s able to stand upright and get off some great shots (way better than I can do) but what he did on the 15th hole at Torrey Pines will go down in history as one of the best shots of all-time.
Nevarez teed up his 5 wood and sent loose a gorgeous shot. As the ball was still in the air you can hear one of his buddies say…
“Ahh f*ck. That’s in the hole, homeboy!”
And in the hole it was. The ball landed on the green and smoothly rolled directly into the pin for a hole-in-one.
To say everyone went wild would be an understatement.
Nevarez said the following about the experience.
“I was in shock. It was mind-blowing, for sure. Just watching the reaction from my buddies, it was like I was dreaming. Like I woke up from my sleep or something. It was crazy.
I made this hole in one at one of my bucket list golf courses at the most beautiful hole at Torrey Pines swinging with one arm in a Paragolfer, playing the course for the first time. It doesn’t get any better than that…
I was able to stand up and hug all of my friends and family that were so stoked for me hitting that epic shot on beautiful Hole 15 at Torrey Pines North. That was priceless.”
Talk about an incredible moment. Overcoming the odds of not only surviving a horrible accident, but going on to do something most golfers can only dream about.
A beautiful moment for Abdul Nevarez.
