Tiger Woods to Play Genesis Invitational
Woods Returns to PGA Tour at Torrey Pines
Tiger Woods to play Genesis Invitational next week, marking his first PGA Tour event since the 2024 British Open. The tournament, originally set for Riviera Country Club, moved to Torrey Pines due to wildfires. Woods, 49, has dominated at this course, winning eight times, including the 2008 U.S. Open.
His participation seemed uncertain after the recent passing of his mother, Kultida. Ongoing injuries also raised doubts. Woods underwent back surgery in September and still struggles with leg issues from his 2021 car accident. Despite these setbacks, he remains committed to competing.
Overcoming Injuries for a Comeback
Woods has carefully managed his return to competitive golf. He skipped December’s Hero World Challenge but played in the PNC Championship with his son, Charlie. They finished as runners-up. Although this event was only an exhibition, it gave fans a glimpse of his current form.
Last season, he entered five PGA Tour events but withdrew from the Genesis due to injury. He also missed the cut at three majors but completed the Masters, finishing 60th. His injuries continue to limit his schedule, yet he remains determined to compete at the highest level.
In addition to traditional tournaments, Woods has participated in two TGL indoor simulator events and plans to compete again on February 18. Now, Tiger Woods to play Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines, where he hopes to regain top form. This course has played a crucial role in his career, making it the perfect setting for his return.
