How the Men’s Golf Championship Works
The process begins with six 54-hole regional tournaments, tasked with determining the 30 qualifying teams and six individuals who will advance to the finals. In three regionals, thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will vie for qualification. The other three see 14 teams and five individuals outside those teams competing. The lowest five teams and the top individual not on those teams will progress to the finals.
At the finals, all 30 teams and six individuals will engage in 54 holes of stroke play. Following this, the top 15 teams and nine individuals not on advancing teams will contend for one extra day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match-play, alongside crowning the 72-hole stroke-play individual champion. The top eight teams will then enter a bracket for further competition.
The University of Texas at Austin will host the 2024 national championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
In team match-play, each match offers a point, with five points available in total. Winning teams will advance through the semifinals to the finals. The first team to secure three points in the final match will be declared the national champion.

How the 2024 NCAA Golf Championship Works
Regional play uses six 54-hole competitions to determine the contenders for the championship finals. Each regional features 12 teams and six individuals not affiliated with those teams. The bottom five teams and the top individual not on those teams proceed to the finals. Starting in 2024, regional champion titles will be bestowed upon the team champions.
During the championship finals, all 30 teams and six individuals will complete 54 holes of stroke play. After this initial competition, the top 15 teams and nine individuals will progress to an extra day of stroke play to identify the top eight teams for match-play, as well as the 72-hole stroke-play individual champion. The top eight teams will be arranged into a bracket for match play, with the No. 1 seed facing the No. 8 seed, and so forth.
Five points will be at stake in total, with one point awarded per individual match. Advancing teams will move on to the semifinals and then the finals. The first team to secure three points in the final match will either advance or be crowned the national champion, depending on the scenario.
