San Diego City Amateur Golf Championship at Torrey Pines
The San Diego City Amateur Golf Championship is a prominent annual event held at the iconic Torrey Pines Golf Course, known for its stunning ocean views and challenging layout. This prestigious tournament typically takes place during the summer, attracting amateur golfers from across the region. It’s meticulously organized and run entirely by the professional staff at the Torrey Pines pro-shop. The competition features a unique format with all rounds conducted as a shotgun start. This means that players begin their rounds simultaneously from different holes, with morning sessions starting at 7:00 AM and afternoon sessions at 1:00 PM.
This past year, the Men’s Open handicapped flights included 60 players, which represented an increase of 15 players with respect to previous years. The Men’s Championship flight included 120 players. In the Men’s Senior division there was 30 players per handicapped flight and 52 in the Championship flight. In all cases, Men’s Open and Senior flights, there was a 36-hole cut.
